The random musings of George Lane... Marketing, Business, Plumbing and working out what the hell's going on

Make Money Online? Oh please.

Ever had your thoughts summed up in one sentence?

Well, it just happened to me and has saved me an awful lot of typing…

Back when I was marketing my services more aggressively, I’d get so many enquiries about “how can I make money online?”.

After being sympathetic to the first dozen or so pleadings, hearing that same question got a little weary, and I always planned on writing an in depth article about how the “how do I make money online?” question is so deeply flawed and useless…

Hmmm. Flawed and useless… Does that sound a little harsh?

Well think of it this way: When you take this question out of context and overlay it onto more established technologies, its futility becomes self evident.

I mean, how many people ask telemarketing companies “how do I make money using a telephone?” or direct mailing companies “how do I make money with paper and stamps?”

I rest my case.

So rather than sailing off on a bitter rant about people using their brains a bit more, I’ll leave you with a quote from the Barbelith Underground forum about the internet, which I think says it all:

“…this technology must still be fundamentally understood as a tool and not a solution.”

There. That’s saved me a few thousand words….

Cheers,

George.

    Agreed. Well put. or…well referred?

Thanks for passing along that somewhat obvious but easily forgettable gem.
