The random musings of George Lane... Marketing, Business, Plumbing and working out what the hell's going on

The Art of Fighting Without Fighting

I’ll always remember the “fighting without fighting” scene in Enter the Dragon…

I was reminded of this when I was studying Ari Galpers “Unlock the Game” materials today. It’s like “selling without selling”.

The common thread between the two is you get the same (or better) results by using unconventional methods. Be it fighting or selling.

Part of the customer-getting strategies with a new business I’m involved in is cold calling. Thankfully my business partners are highly experienced in the field and have won awards for it, even though their methods are conventional.

Anyway, I’ve never cold called before (hated the idea) but decided to roll up my sleeves and give it a go after taking some advice from my partners. The experience wasn’t too bad, but I can’t say I enjoyed it, and I have a feeling the recipients weren’t over enamored either.

So I looked up Ari Galpers site who I remember hearing about from Perry Marshall. He has a very different approach to cold calling and selling in general which diffuses pressure and gets to the truth of the prospects issues. I tried some of the free info on 10 cold calls. It was late in the day and only about 3 answered, but I had no rejection from any of them and had great conversations with each one.

Today I joined Ari’s members area and for the first time in years of marketing, I feel I’ve came across a genuinely new way of doing things.

I’m going to give Ari’s mindset a go when I do some calls on Monday. Will let you know how it goes. (May even beat my one of my partners monthly sales record of £300k… you never know!)

If all goes well, the rest of the sales team will get the full “Unlock the Game” treatment.

Thanks for this post – excellent comments in the book as I recall: Zen Way to the Martial Arts.

In Japan they had a school teaching the specific art of sword fighting, about Tesshu, called the sword of no sword, now at this interesting aikido site:

The very brief essence is this: think about the sword and it is drawn to you. The fix: don’t let your mind linger on the sword, but see it as part of the surround.

    Thanks!
